Lemmenlaakso

We discovered this small nook of woods last fall. It’s a 5 min drive from our place. It’s called Lemmenlaakso and it’s just perfect for a small excursion. Some sausages for the bbq, tea, chocolate and the perfect day unravels. This particular trip was two weeks ago, so spring was still quite well hidden. As it tends to be in Finland. I’m always, even after 10 years of living here amazed at how long it takes for grass to be green, for leaves to show up. It’s slow and very, very zen-like experience.

Best friends forever

She might forget to brush her teeth. She could totally skip breakfast. She sometimes forgets to pee. But she never ever forgets to hug Kito in the morning after she wakes up. Her big brother and friend. The bond between these two is amazing.

Luka

Luka. The newest member of the wonderful family I’ve been honored to photograph many times before. There is something so special about baptism celebration, about welcoming a baby to the community. Saying: hello baby. Welcome to Earth. You are one of us. We hug you and cuddle you and protect you and then you pay it forward when time comes. You know, kindness is what makes this place go round.

Or, as Henry James said it:

Three things in human life are important. The first is to be kind. The second is to be kind. And the third is to be kind.

The rest is easy.

Skiing

Finally, finally! Enough snow to put on leg extensions also known as cross-country skis. This is seriously my favorite sport in the world and I only learnt how to ski in my mid-20s. Since then I logged about 200 kms each season. Except the years with no snow or big pregnant belly (then it was down to a few dozen km. Or maybe one dozen. Not much anyway). And now Inkku got her skis and she is super eager to learn. The littlest guy seems desperate to have his own skis and give it a try too. And you can see how desperate he is if you scroll down just a bit- that was the look on his face when he saw Inkku with that super cool looking equipment strapped to her feet. We have a pair of really small skis parked in the garage, so I think we will give it a go. Let’s see how it goes. Otherwise it’s gonna be me pulling Alvar in a trailer and Hannu coaching Ingrid.
