Childhood Unplugged May

“In the spring, at the end of the day, you should smell like dirt.” – Margaret Atwood
Mid-April. Air was still crisp and fresh, especially close to sunset. I was planting some herbs in one of the boxes, little helper by my side.
I look at him as he sheds a mitten and digs his chubby fingers deep into dirt, takes a handful and examines it up close, marvels and laughs. How beautiful that handful of dirt is. I cannot help but think that we are made of the same stuff. Dirt and plants, everything on this beautiful planet is made of star dust. We are too. And he somehow knows it. It’s so natural and so amazing at the same time.
